Respondents backround
Bernadette Whitney
- Mrs. Whitney is an elderly neighbor of mine who works as a seamstress. She fixes peoples clothes, ranging from suits for men, to winter gloves for little kids. She has done this in her house for many years, and has always been a hard-worker taking on lots of jobs at once and completing them for customers who are always satisfied.
- Mr. Scheeler is a worker at a local restaurant in Ocean City called Dumsers' Dairyland. He is a busser which is someone who cleans tables, and has been working there for 8 years. He is also a 23 year old college senior who wants to become a photographer. After an interview with Brandon he began by describing some of the problems that would occur whenever he would work the nigh-shifts alone and it would be extremely busy, which was most of the time in the summer.
- Mr. Mizzel is also another worker at the restaurant Dumsers' Dairyland and has worked there for 7 years. He mostly works in the kitchen however over the years he has taken different jobs around the restaurant so that he can always be of help anytime someone is out sick or can't keep up. He works extremely hard for those around him and is the type of person who is happy to help.
Why did you chose the respondent?
Bernadette Whitney
I chose Mrs. Whitney because she is very old and yet still works extremely hard to complete a job with satisfied customers. I also chose this respondent because one of my goals as an engineer is to create or innovate things that will make life easier for everyone and believe Mrs. Bernie definitely deserves something after all the years of hard work.
Brandon
I chose Mr. Scheeler because having both parents work in restaurants i understand the struggles of many things when they have super busy nights such as not having enough tables, silver ware or rude customers. I chose Brandon because after working so many years at the restaurant, it would be really beneficial to him if he had something to make his job a lot easier.
Austin
I chose Mr. Mizzel because similar to the other people i have interviewed he is also an extremely hard worker and should have something that will make the job easier on him. I was also able to relate to Mr. Mizzel because i am someone who is also happy to help anyone and because he has also had experience with mechanical machines such as car engines, and motors.

Problem
Bernadette Whitney
The problem Mrs. Whitney is currently facing is due to the amount she sews and for how long she has been sewing which has resulted in her having osteoarthritis in some of her fingers. She has gone to the doctor and been given a certain object that wraps around her finger and holds them in place as to not "trigger" which means they will lock in place and can be very painful to the point of waking up the person. However with the device prescribed by the doctor she is not able to grab many things around the house which limits many of the chores she can do around the house and she also does not like sitting around not doing anything. She wishes there was something else that would help her fingers to stop from triggering while also allowing her to do small tasks around the house.
Brandon Scheeler
The Problem Mr. Scheeler is facing is when he described busy nights at the restaurant in which he would be running out of silver ware for tables, resulting in tables not having utensils to eat. Another consequence was him having to sit down and roll some himself which would then result in him falling behind tables having him work harder to catch up. He wishes there was something that could roll silver ware for him so that he could simply press a button and continue working while the machine created rolled silverware he could take to tables, saving him time and allowing for him to not fall behind.
Austin Mizzel
The Problem Mr. Mizzel is facing is when he would work on cars and would drop a screw, bolt or a tiny part of the car that was needed into front of the engine and was out of arms reach. While there are some metal rods with magnets on the bottom that reach the parts, or gloves that have magnets on the back he does not always have them around him interrupting his pace and often times aren't as efficient as he would like. He wishes there was a glove of sorts with small magnets in the finger tips or palm so that he would not drop them in the first place and continue working at a consistent pace.
